Applied Entrepreneurship Education for South Africa's Youth

South Africa's unemployment rate reached 33,6% in the second quarter of 2026 (Stats SA, QLFS Q2 2026), and youth unemployment sits even higher. We believe entrepreneurship education is one of the clearest levers we have to change that - not because entrepreneurship means starting a business, but because it builds the confidence, ownership and entrepreneurial thinking young people need to believe they can.

What we mean by entrepreneurship education
Entrepreneurship education is not education plus entrepreneurship. It is not a business-studies elective bolted onto a curriculum. It is a way of teaching that builds confidence, ownership and entrepreneurial thinking in learners - from high school through TVET college, university and into early careers. Applied entrepreneurship education takes this idea out of theory and puts it into the classroom, where it belongs.
Why this matters now
South Africa has well-known problems in literacy, numeracy, coding and robotics education. But there is also a large, less-discussed relational problem facing our youth - a gap in confidence, identifying opportunities and a resilient belief in their own capability. Solving this needs a creative response, not just a curriculum fix. Entrepreneurship education is a catalyst for both youth development and employment reduction, and we are opening up the dialogue on where it fits.
Where we are right now

We are in an exploratory phase, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. We have been listening: our podcast has featured 8 guests from across the entrepreneurship education space in South Africa, plus one global perspective from Turkey, to understand where entrepreneurship education is located in this country today. Read more on the Blog.

We are working towards a South Africa where every young person believes they can build something and they have the tools to do so. This is not just a business but building a sustainable future. That is the destination. We are still working out exactly how we get there, and this site will grow honestly alongside that work.
